    A secret symbol left by Caryll, runesmith of Byrgenwerth.

    The twisted cross means "Metamorphosis."

    Rotated anti-clockwise, this rune boosts stamina.

    The discovery of blood made their dream of evolution a
    reality, Metamorphosis, and the excesses and deviation that
    followed, was only the beginning.

Overview

  • Caryll Runes are special items that you can attach to your character at the workshop in the Hunter's Dream. You can use up to four at onetime, and they provide a variety of very helpful effects. Use them tactically depending on the environments you plan to explore and the enemies you expect to face.
  • Before you can make use of Runes, you'll need the Rune Workshop Tool. This is found in Hemwick after defeating the Witch of Hemwick. After you have the tool, approach the Memory Altar in the Workshop and press X to equip Runes in your memory slots. You have three normal Memory Slots for basic runes, and a fourth "Oath Memory" slot. The basic runes are for use with normal Caryll Runes, and the Oath Memory slot is for Oath Runes only. Some runes have up to three different ranks, with higher ranked runes having more powerful effects.
  • Beware if you sell any Caryll Rune they will NOT respawn in New Game Plus.

Effects

  • Anti-Clockwise Metamorphosis boosts your maximum stamina. Whereas Clockwise Metamorphosis can be viewed as the default defensive Rune, this is the default offensive Rune. Having more stamina allows you to execute longer attack strings without retreating, and it's more useful for users of weapons with high-stamina costs. If you like weapons such as the Hunter Axe and Logarius' Wheel, for example, Anti-Clockwise Metamorphosis can be a huge boon!

Availability

  • Tier (1): Treasure in (Main Story): Forbidden Woods, Ravine Floor guarded by Small Celestial Emissaries.
  • Tier (2): Acquired from (Main Story): Patches the Spider, confront him in the Lecture Building and speak to him face-to-face.
  • Tier (3): Treasure in (Root Dungeons): Lower Loran; jtjuh8gc, F/R/C Lower Loran L1 side area before layer lamp [tested May 12, 2020], h3up6y2d, Lower Loran L1 [tested May 12, 2020]; alternatively found in False Depth Dungeon, dgt23fwp, Lower Loran L1, side area before layer lamp [tested May 12, 2020]

Notes

  • Unique Coffin Item Treasure (available) in (Root Dungeons): Anti-Clockwise Metamorphosis +20% in Lower Loran [All Layers] and Sinister Lower Loran [All Layers], could be found in each bonus room and can only be looted once.   • One of the two Metamorphosis Caryll Runes, the other one is Clockwise Metamorphosis.
