Basic Information

Scaling determines how much additional damage a weapon deals.

A character gains a percentage of the weapons base damage as additional damage, indicated by a "+" next to the weapons base damage.

Scaling Values

Values	Letter Grade
Scaling above or equal 1.10	S	The weapon's stat bonus, indicated by a letter grade of S / A / B / C / D / E, and the character's stat's current level each correspond to a percentage value. These are multiplied together and against the weapons base damage to determine the bonus damage received. The letter grade represents a range of percentages.
Scaling below 1.10	A
Scaling below 0.85	B
Scaling below 0.65	C
Scaling below 0.55	D
Scaling below 0.30	E

In AR calculation, attribute levels will be converted to a factor, to denote how far from maximum they are. At attribute lvl 25, you get half of what you would gain at lvl 99, where the maximum is. At lvl 50, this is 85%. These are the so called softcaps. The result is that you get a lot of damage with each level up until attribute lvl 25, medium damage up until attribute lvl 50, and low beyond that. When you calculate the AR of your weapon, base damage, attribute scaling and attribute saturation are multiplied together for each attribute/damage type.

Example: A character with 50 Strength and 20 Skill is using a +10 Whirligig Saw, which has a base damage of 190, a strength scaling of 1.1 (S) and a skill scaling of 0.3 (D). According to the attribute saturation chart, 50 Strength is converted to a factor of 0.85 and 20 Skill is coverted to 0.35. The AR of this weapon (without blood gems) is then equal to: WeaponBaseDamage + ARfromStrength + ARfromSkill = 190 + 190x1.1x0.85 + 190x0.3x0.35 = 387.6. This is the value you would see on the status screen of your character. To calculate the actual damage to something, blood gems, enemy defences and attack modifiers need to be applied after this calculation.

Notes

Soft Caps: The attribute saturation chart shows that up until level 10, the saturation factor increases by 0.005 for every level. This is increased to 0.03 for every level up until lvl 25. Then it decreases to 0.014 for every level up until lvl 50 and 0.003 for every level beyond that. This means that leveling Strength, Skill, Bloodtinge or Arcane past 25 slightly reduces bonuses, and past 50 severely reduces bonuses. This can result in the fact that it might be better to put levels in an attribute that is below 50 (even if the scaling is bad), than to level one beyond 50.
